Constructed Realities of the Self
Dov Fuchs is an Israeli artist working in photography and digital composition. His practice centers on constructed self-portraiture, exploring identity under the pressure of time, memory, and internal division. Through carefully staged and digitally composed images, he creates quiet visual paradoxes in which the self is fractured, doubled, or displaced, allowing psychological and philosophical tensions to take visible form.
Born in Haifa in 1948, Fuchs brings to his work the precision and depth of a life shaped by science and inquiry. For over three decades, he held senior roles in research, development, and management within Israel’s aerospace industry. This analytical foundation continues to inform his artistic practice, where structure, control, and experimentation play a central role. A graduate of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, he holds both BSc and MSc degrees in Aerospace Engineering. In 2007, he took early retirement to devote himself fully to the visual arts.
Entirely self-taught, Fuchs approaches photography and digital composition with both an engineer’s analytical discipline and an artist’s curiosity. He is the sole subject of nearly all his images, using his own body as a site of exploration. Through this sustained self-engagement, he investigates existential themes, philosophical paradoxes, and emotional undercurrents, creating carefully constructed, symbol-laden compositions that often carry a quiet sense of irony or revelation.
His work has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across Israel, the United States, and Europe, including the Marc Chagall Artists' House (Haifa), Ben Ami Gallery (Tel Aviv), Contemplor Gallery (Vienna), and TeraVarna Gallery (Los Angeles). His latest solo exhibition, The Inner Voyager, opened at the Global Art Gallery in Tel Aviv in October 2025.
With nearly 200 published works on the curated 1X platform and more than 50 head curator awards, Fuchs has also been extensively featured in Living the Photo Artistic Life, where he was named Featured Artist in February 2024, as well as in interviews with 1X Magazine and Bold Journey Magazine.
Fuchs is also the author of two novels, published in 1998 and 2014.
He lives in Haifa with his wife and is a father of two and grandfather of six. His reflections on aging, family, creativity, and inner transformation form a quiet but persistent thread throughout his work.
